Jean Ritchie
Independent higher education technology expert

Jean Ritchie Jean is former service director for the University of Edinburgh's ECDF (Edinburgh Compute and Data Facility) or "supercomputer with large scale storage provision for research data". Jean developed the financial model for ECDF, negotiated its renewal cycle with heads of school in the College of Science and Engineering and chaired stakeholder meetings to ensure the ECDF met (and continues to meet) the needs of researchers.

Jean was also convenor of the University's IT committee working party on green computing, also co-convenor of a working party to investigate and make recommendations on research data storage, and co-convenor of the University's IT Futures group.

In her past, Jean has held roles including:

  • a biology teacher in West Africa (West African syllabus)
  • systems analyst and on-farm computer specialist in the East of Scotland College of Agriculture (now the Scottish Agricultural College)
  • adviser at University of Edinburgh, and head of information skills training unit at University of Edinburgh

Jean was also seconded to:

  • the Scottish Funding Council for 6 years as programme manager for two successive programmes of around 80 projects: investigating ways of improving the infrastructure of the Scottish MANs in their early days, and ways of using the MANs to support the work of Scottish Universities
  • EARN Association (European Education and Research Network Association and UKERNA (UK Educational and Research Network Association)

 

Robin Noble
Independent public sector information technology expert

Robin Noble Robin is former Head of IT at Royal Borough of Kingston Council. He held this role for the past 14 years until autumn 2010.

He has experience of business transformation, customer service management, IT strategies, technology roadmaps, tender & bid processes, CRM solutions, infrastructure project delivery, customer web portals, IT upgrades & systems migration, and delivering added business value through the adoption of new technology.

Robin's work has been has featured in a number of high profile case studies for Microsoft and Cisco and he has also led award winning projects at Royal Borough of Kingston Council.

Prior to his role with Royal Borough of Kingston, Robin has held various IT roles ranging from an oil company in Germany to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

 

Ian Herbert
Independent health information systems specialist

Ian Herbert Ian is a health information systems specialist with thirty-eight years experience in computing and Information Technology. Ian is currently Vice Chair of the British Computer Society (BCS) Health Informatics Forum and an active member of the BCS Primary Health Care Specialist Group. Ian also sits on the BCS Specialist Group Executive Committee and is a BCS Council member.

Ian was previously a senior consultant working for the NHS on the National Programme for IT (NPfIT). He has previously led the team that produced the Update Primary Care System, which grew out of work undertaken as a Research Fellow at the University of Exeter. He has also worked on the Requirements for Accreditation for GP Systems, the NHS Healthcare Model and Episodes of Care, and was a member of two European projects concerned with computerised guideline support.

 

Dr Glyn Hayes
M.B.Ch.B, D.R.C.O.G., F.B.C.S. CITP
Independent health informatics consultant

Glyn Hayes Glyn currently provides independent consultancy on all aspects of health informatics.

He is a founder member of the British Computer Society (BCS) Primary Health Care Specialist Group; he was its Chair from 1985 to 1990 and he is currently its President. He was Chair of the BCS Health Informatics Forum from 2000 to 2008. He was made an Honorary Fellow of the BCS in 2008.

He is a founder member and current President of the UK Council for Health Informatics Professions.

2008-2009, Glyn chaired a review team set up to examine NHS and social care IT by the then Shadow Health Minister, Stephen O'Brien MP.

1992-2000, he was Medical Director of one of the largest suppliers of IT to the English NHS.

On the international stage, Glyn was previously elected as the Secretary General of the European Institute for Health records (EuroRec). He has formally represented the UK on the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) and was the chair of the Primary Care Working Group of IMIA. He has also been awarded the Rory O'Moore Medal by the Irish Health Informatics Society for his contribution to health informatics.

A retired UK medical practitioner, Glyn was a GP in Worcester for 25 years.
